Plan, Sheet, Drawing, or Page?
Before we go any further we should explain that sometimes the terms Drawing Plan Image and Page are used interchangeably. This is not the end of the world but let us clarify a few things in ConstructConnect Takeoff:
- Page - this is an electronic "container" of sorts accessed on the Takeoff Tab where an electronic representation of a construction Plan is displayed. The Page contains the drawing (or Plan) (the original and all revisions) all takeoff objects and all Annotations (drawing markups).
- Page Name is the title of the Plan contained in a Page. Page Name is based on the Title Block (for example "First Floor Plan" or "Reflected Ceiling Plan" or "Mechanicals Details") from the Plan itself.
- Page No. is assigned sequentially when you load a Plan Set however you should change this to match the actual plan (typically "A" for Architecture "C" for Civil "L" for Landscape etc. followed by some additional sheet designation - A2.31; M210 etc.). You use the Page No. to match revisions of a plan with older releases. We cover Revisions and Matching in Related Articles. By default the Page No. is shown in the Page Navigator you can turn it off in Settings.
- We recommend that you update Page Name and Page No. to make navigation and matching easier.
- Page Index Number - is based on a Page's current position (the row) in the Plan Organizer that uniquely identifies this Page. It is shown in the Page Navigator by default you can turn it off in Settings.
Additional terms we use:
- Plan - this is a single sheet or drawing from a set of construction documents (which we call a "plan set") and what is displayed on the Takeoff Tab when you navigate to a Page. The Plan is what is shown in the Takeoff Window on the Takeoff Tab (for all intents and purposes let's consider a Plan a blueprint...)
- Drawings or Image Files - these are the actual files (PDFs TIFS etc.) you import or load into ConstructConnect Takeoff when you create a Project's Plan Sets.
We recommend taking some time and organizing and collating your Pages before you start taking off a project. This way the Pages are in a logical order and you can navigate them more smoothly and efficiently. They'll also have much more user-friendly names.
Drawing v. Drawings
We avoid using the term "drawing" when referring to the Page (or Sheet) or Plan. When referring to a blueprint and takeoff/markups represented on-screen in the Image Window we use the term "Page" - drawing is what you do with a Takeoff Item (previously known as "Condition") or Annotation Tool - you draw takeoff and annotation on the Plan - and the actual file stored on your computer that is the underlying image on the Image Tab (the drawing file... or image file typically a PDF or a TIF).
