Sometimes, an existing Condition is similar enough to what you need that simply creating a copy of it and making minor changes is the most efficient course of action. For example, if you are taking off several floors of a building and some are 8', 9', and 10' to deck, create the 8' Condition first, then duplicate it twice and simply change the Height in the 2nd and 3rd Conditions.
Another shortcut - once you have all your Conditions created/built, save them as Styles and Styles Sets to make using them in the future literally a two-click process. See Related Articles for details on Styles and Style Sets.
To Duplicate an existing Condition:
- Select the Condition (or Conditions) from the Condition List
- Click the Duplicate icon
, right-click and select Duplicate, or press <Ctrl> <D> on the keyboard - The Condition is duplicated and immediately shows in the Conditions window - the duplicate has the same properties as the original Condition except for Cond. No. and Color
- Double-click the new Condition to open the Condition Properties dialog box - and make whatever changes are necessary to distinguish it from the original Condition
- Click OK
The Duplicate copy will be selected, and the Name will be in "edit" mode so you can quickly rename it. When you duplicate multiple Conditions at the same time, the first duplicate copy will be in selected and the name in "edit" mode.
You can duplicate more than one Condition at a time. Hold down the Shift (adjacent) or CTRL (not-adjacent) buttons to select the Conditions you want to duplicate, then click the Duplicate button.
You can duplicate a Condition and reassign all the takeoff associated with it on the current page to the copy. This is a huge time-saver if you realize you took off a room full of walls with an 8' Condition (or copied a room full of takeoff...) and really need it associated with a new, 10' Wall. If you're working with a bid connected interactively to Quick Bid, when you duplicate a Condition in OST, the Condition is duplicated in Quick Bid including all its pricing (Items).
