Setting a Database to "Require Logins"
You can require users to log into a database to protect a database from unauthorized use. The database Administrator can assign specific Access Levels (above), limiting what a logged-in user can access. Access-levels and database-login go hand-in-hand to help you protect your database from unauthorized access/modification.
The database must have at least one Employee with login rights to require logins. See Masters: Employees for assistance with creating Employees.
- Open Database Properties (right-click on the database in Bids Tab and select "Properties" , or click on Properties in the Open Databases dialog box)
- Click on the check box for Logins Required
- Enter in the username and password for the database Administrator to adjust this setting
The database closes, then re-opens at the login screen.
- Enter in appropriate username and password
- Click OK
Logging into a Secured Database
If a database is set to "Require Login", each user is presented with the following Login screen, each time they open the database/program:
- Enter your valid Login name and password
- Check the Remember Login name and password check box if you don't want to enter your username and password each time you launch the application
- Click OK
When using logins, you will likely want to assign specific rights (Access Levels) to each Estimator to control what he or she can do in the database (see previous article for more information).
On-Screen Takeoff database logins are separate from any network or SQL Server logins. ConstructConnect does not have access to these logins or passwords, only your Database Administrator does.
