Issue
Image files you've imported into On-Screen Takeoff from a CD/DVD or other external drive are not displayed.
Discussion
When you add images from a CD or Flash Drive, that CD or Flash Drive must be in the CD-ROM every time the Project is opened for On-Screen Takeoff to be able to load those images.
We recommend that you copy the contents of any CDs to a local or network drive first then linking the Cover Sheet to that location (so you are not linking OST to files on a removable drive).
If You Use the Bid Wizard
When you link to image files stored on an external or removable drive and are not using the Bid Wizard, we recommend you copy the files to your local drive first, then use the local files in your Bid. If you do not copy the files locally, and the CD or removable drive is not available when the program launches, On-Screen Takeoff will not be able to display the page(s).
Resolution
To save images from a CD or Flash Drive to the hard drive (do this before adding them to an On-Screen Takeoff project):
- Open My Computer (Windows Explorer)
- Navigate to the CD or Flash Drive drive and double-click on it
- Right-click on the folder that contains the images, and select Copy
- Navigate to the drive where Image files are normally saved (by default, C:\OCS Documents\OST)
- Create a new folder in that location based on the name of the current project - review Windows Help for more information on creating folders
- Open the new project folder, Right-click, and choose Paste
Windows copies all of the image files to the hard drive. Once completed, add the images to a new or existing project referencing this new location.
For additional assistance with copying and pasting files to/from CDs, consult your Windows Help system.
