After Auto Takeoff returns results, sometimes you’ll want to change one or more takeoffs from one Takeoff Item to another. PlanSwift’s Takeoff Boost Plugin includes a new “Reassign Takeoff” Tool, on the Tools button that makes this easy.
Overview
The Reassign Takeoff allows you to change the takeoff item associated with a takeoff from one item to another Takeoff Item or Assembly. For our example, Auto Takeoff misread a few Wall Type symbols and created extra, unwanted Takeoff Items. This is an easy fix.
The Reassign Takeoff button is found on the Takeoff Boost toolbar, on the Tools ribbon bar.

How To Reassign Takeoff
The screenshot below shows some takeoffs that have been done to sample plan A2.32 Level 2 Floor Plan.
We ran Auto Takeoff, setting the Wall Type shape to hexagon.
Notice, Auto Takeoff returned two B3 Wall Type variations (and several “B3-1” that also need to be fixed). The B3-na takeoffs should be “B3”.
You could use the Change Takeoff Item Plugin (see Related Articles) for this also, however the Reassign Takeoff Tool lets you be more precise and select just the takeoffs you want to update and allows you to reassign them to an Assembly, if desired.

-
Select the Takeoff Item (to select all takeoffs) or Select one or more takeoffs to reassign
-
Click the Reassign Takeoff button

The Change Takeoff window opens.

Change Takeoff dialog box with Existing Items shown

Change Takeoff dialog box with Templates/Assemblies shown
- Select “Existing Item” or “Templates”
- Expand the lists to see all the Items/Templates to which you can reassign the selected takeoffs
- Use Search… if you know the Item/Template name
Options
There are two options in the bottom-left corner that affect how this reassignment is completed:
- Delete Original Item: If you opt to reassign all the takeoffs associated with the original Takeoff Item, you can have PlanSwift delete that unused Takeoff Item for you.
- Only Selection Sections: Only reassigns the select takeoffs, not all of them.
- Click OK to complete the reassignment
